IOWA LAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE RENAMES SAVE SCHOLARSHIP TO HONOR ELISE HINDERS
Iowa Lakes Community College proudly announces the renaming of the SAVE Scholarship to the Elise Hinders Memorial SAVE Scholarship, honoring the remarkable life and legacy of Elise Hinders, who inspired many people despite her young age.
A 2022 Newell-Fonda High School graduate, Hinders excelled in and out of the classroom. She was actively involved in volleyball, basketball, track, softball, and quiz bowl during high school. While in high school and during college breaks, Hinders worked at Mustang Daycare, forming meaningful bonds with children and staff alike.
Hinders attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, where she earned her diploma in Early Childhood Education in May 2024 and had plans to pursue her Associate of Science degree in the same field. Hinders was a SAVE program participant, a member of the Emmetsburg Campus Student Senate, and a member of Laker Life.
Life wasn’t always easy for Hinders, who was diagnosed with epilepsy at six months old. However, despite the struggles, her determination to excel and her infectious positivity were unwavering, making her an inspiration to all who knew her. Her relentless drive to pursue her goals and her ability to form lasting connections profoundly impacted her community and those fortunate enough to cross her path.
To honor her legacy, the Elise Hinders Memorial SAVE Scholarship will support students who were enrolled in the SAVE program and continue their education at Iowa Lakes. This non-renewable scholarship awards $500 per recipient, distributed by semester enrollment status (12+ credits = $250/semester; 6-11 credits = $125/semester).
Iowa Lakes Community College celebrates the life of Elise Hinders, ensuring that her legacy of faith, courage, and determination continues to inspire future generations of students.
